The first mention of forming a Ski Club was in the 1960's by a group of Werribee families who skied on the Barwon River. They were stopped from enjoying their water sports due to complaints by some of the residents who lived adjacent to the river.

It was decided to investigate the use of the Melton Weir, which was at that time used only by the Victorian Speedboat Club and the well known skiing family, the Faulkners.

The Faulkner family used a section of water and had installed a slalom course and a ski jump.

A possible site was found and the Werribee City Engineer at the time, Ambrose McCormack agreed to grade a road into the area where it was planned to build an amenities block.

For some unknown reason the move to establish at Melton Weir was stopped that caused the Werribee skiers to look elsewhere.

The next venue that the group used was at Metcalfe pool at Lake Eppalock. Ray Phipps, Brian Maloney, Barry Wood, Graeme Edwards, John Hobbs, Jim McClure, John McClure, Joe Fratantaro, Bill Gordon and Bob Baxter were part of the group that skied at Metcalfe Pool and this in part explains the "Essendon Connection".

Through Bill Gordon, an offer inviting members was received from the "K.B.M." Ski Club who was at that time looking for members. This offer started the group to consider establishing a club at Lake Eppalock.

John McClure and Jack Pengelly were travelling home after a furniture removal in the North of the state and being in the vicinity of Lake Eppalock called in and saw the then ranger, Basil Brown.
